ISO 14001
ISO 14001 is a methodology to manage and continuously improve the environmental performance of your enterprise.The three most common reasons cited for ISO 14001 registration are:
- customer requirement,
- competitive market advantage and
- cost or risk reduction through improved resource management.
The audit process can identify opportunities
for improvement in your management system. When you successfully
complete ISO 14001 registration process, you will be registered
to a management system environmental standard with worldwide
recognition.
About the standard
The term "ISO 14000" refers to a series of
international standards relating to EMS. ISO 14001 is the specifications
standard used for auditing. Companies successfully completing
the registration process are considered "registered." ISO 14001
consists of six sections:
- General Requirements;
- Environmental Policy;
- Planning;
- Implementation and Operation;
- Checking and Corrective Action; and
- Management Review.
As of Dec 2006, 14 companies in Uganda attained ISO 14001-certification including Uganda Cleaner Production Centre.
