The “Global Greenchem Innovation
and Network Program (GGINP)” aims to strengthen the sound management of
industrial chemicals and their waste through better control, waste reduction
and/or elimination and particularly to strengthen green chemistry solutions for
persistent organic pollutants (POP chemicals) and mercury replacement through
capacity building, innovations and creation of a global green chemistry network
that fosters visibility, support and implementation.
Through funding from Global
Environment Facility (GEF), United Nations Industrial Development Organisation
(UNIDO) which is the implementing agency in conjunction with Yale University as
the executing agency are partnering with Uganda Cleaner Production Centre and
other Research institutions, government agencies and NGOs to implement the
project.
Green chemistry aims at
redesigning chemical products and processes to be safer, more efficient, and
less harmful to the environment and human health. This holistic approach not
only reduces the immediate impacts of harmful chemicals but also supports
long-term sustainability.
Are you a university student, researcher, or eco-innovator with a passion for solving real-world problems? Here is your chance to put your skills to the test and help power Uganda's sustainable energy revolution!
The Uganda Cleaner Production Centre (UCPC), in partnership with the African Power Initiative and supported by the Global Green Chemistry Network & Innovation Program (GGCNIP), invites you to the Green Chemistry Hackathon 2025.
Develop groundbreaking solutions to supercharge Uganda's National Biofuel Blending Program. We are looking for brilliant ideas to solve two critical challenges:
🏆 CHALLENGE A: The Safe Solvent Quest
Find a non-toxic, effective, and scalable solvent system to replace hazardous options in biodiesel extraction.
🏆 CHALLENGE B: The Waste-to-Wealth Mission
Transform the crude glycerol waste from biodiesel production into a valuable, marketable product.

Train the Trainers event held in Kampala, Uganda
The event brought together experts in chemistry, sustainable development, business, and innovation to discuss issues related to green chemistry and its contribution to sustainability. This event also gave an insight of the upcoming accelerator program also under this project that is scheduled for 2025.
